EMI/RFI Shielding Magnesium Alloy Plate AZ31B-H24 as per AMS 4377G standard Thick Thickness for Head Expander

 

AZ31B is a wrought magnesium base alloy with good room-temperature strength and ductility combined with corrosion resistance and weldability. Increased strength is obtained by strain hardening with a subsequent partial anneal (H24 and H26 tempers). Our sheet and plate’s size range is:

Sheet: thickness from 0.5mm to 6mm; Max. width is 600mm; Max. length is 6000mm;

Plate: thickness from 6 mm to 200mm; Max. width is 2000mm; Max. length is 6000mm;

Block: We can supply precut blocks according to customer’s requirements.

 

APPLICATIONS

Sheet and plate in AZ31B find application in medium strength service at temperatures below 150°C. Diverse uses including aerospace, aircraft, concrete tools, 3C (cell phone / camera / computer), speaker cones and textile machinery can all benefit from light weight AZ31B.

 

AZ31B is non-magnetic and has high electrical and thermal conductivity filling the requirements for RFI and EMI shielding in the electronics and computer industries.

 

Superplastic forming of AZ31B sheet at elevated temperatures allows production of a wide variety of intricate parts for automotive uses. Monocoque construction utilizing formed sheet can be adapted to many commercial applications.

WELDABILITY

Excellent weldability with gas shielded arc using AZ61A (preferred) or AZ92A filler rod; post weld stress relief is required to prevent stress corrosion cracking. Resistance welding is excellent.

 

MACHINING

AZ31B, like all magnesium alloy sheet and plate, machines faster than any other metal. Providing the geometry of the part allows, the limiting factor is the power and speed of the machine rather than the quality of the tool material. The power required per cubic centimeter of metal removed varies from 9 to 14 watts per minute depending on machining operation.

 

DENT RESISTANCE

Weight for weight, AZ31B-H24 has proven to be superior to competitive materials in its resistance to denting at moderate energy levels.

SURFACE TREATMENT

All the normal chromating, anodizing, plating, and finishing treatment are readily applicable. AZ31B also responds well to plasma electrolytic oxidation finishing.

Lightest Structural Metal
With a density of 1.8gcm3, by volume magnesium is 30% lighter than aluminium and 75% lighter than steel.
High Specific Stiffness
For bars with equivalent weight and width, magnesium is 18 times stiffer than steel and double that of aluminium. In practice it is not always possible to increase section thickness to these extents. But with only small increases in cross section it is not possible to redesign parts that offer 20-25% weight savings over aluminium equivalents and 65-70% weight savings when substituting steel designs.
Versatile
Magnesium alloys can be shaped into plate by rolling and extruded into both solid and hollow profiles. These can be further shaped using forging, pressing, bending or simply machining from solid.
Highly Machinable
Magnesium alloys are the easiest of all structural metals to machine.

Alloys are available that have comparable properties with other structural metals – with the added advantage of superior performance at elevated temperatures (good creep resistance and tensile strength).

Has inherent screening properties, useful for electronic enclosures and has good thermal conductivity for heat dissipation.
Vibration Damping
Magnesium alloys have excellent vibration damping properties.
Corrosion Resistance
Modern alloys have good corrosion resistance. For more severe environments there are a range of surface passivation and top coat treatments commercially available
